Inventory is where gym retail margin disappears
A tub of whey protein can carry a healthy margin - until three are opened as samples, one expires on the shelf, two are “borrowed” by staff and one is sold without being rung up. Without inventory control, supplement retail can look profitable on the shelf and lose money in practice. The cure is boring and effective: know what you have, count it regularly, and reorder on data rather than instinct.
What Torzil’s inventory covers
| Capability | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Stock management | Current stock per item and per branch |
| Automatic deduction | Every POS sale reduces stock - no manual stock register |
| Barcode scanning | The right item is sold and counted |
| Stock counts | Physical counts compared with expected stock reveal shrinkage |
| Low-stock alerts | Warnings before fast-moving items run out |
| Vendor purchase orders | Orders to suppliers recorded and tracked |
| Branch separation | Each branch’s stock is its own |
A simple inventory routine that works
- Set up items with barcodes, cost and selling price.
- Sell through the POS only - no cash-box sales outside the system.
- Count weekly for fast movers, monthly for everything else.
- Act on low-stock alerts by raising a vendor purchase order.
- Review shrinkage from count differences and fix the cause - samples policy, storage, staff access.

Inventory and the rest of the business
Purchases are business costs. Record supplier spend in expenses with receipt photos and branch tags, and retail revenue from the POS appears in analytics, so you can compare what the counter earns against what it costs to stock.
Multi-branch stock
In a multi-branch gym, each branch’s shelf is separate. Because POS sales ring up against one branch at a time, stock levels and alerts stay accurate per location.
Retail stock control inside the gym platform
Torzil gives a gym the inventory controls retail businesses take for granted - automatic deduction, stock counts, low-stock alerts and vendor purchase orders - inside the same platform as memberships and billing, so retail stops being a cash box and becomes a measured part of the business.
