“Built for India” should mean specific things
Almost every gym software vendor now says it is built for India. The phrase is only useful if it maps to specific workflows. An Indian gym owner needs software that issues a correct GST invoice, accepts UPI without a separate machine, collects renewals without the front desk chasing, sends reminders on WhatsApp without getting the number banned, reads the fingerprint device already on the wall, records a member paying half today and half next month, and calculates a trainer’s commission correctly. Here is how Torzil handles each.
The India checklist, item by item
| Indian requirement | Why it matters | What Torzil does |
|---|---|---|
| GST invoicing | A registered gym must issue invoices with GSTIN, tax rate and breakup; errors surface at filing time | Built-in GST with custom rates, rate history, tax breakups, your logo, address and terms on every PDF invoice; GST report in Excel or PDF |
| UPI payments | UPI is how most Indian members pay; cash and card-only desks lose renewals | UPI, cards and netbanking through your own Razorpay account, recorded automatically against the member |
| UPI AutoPay and recurring payments | Renewals that collect themselves remove the single biggest source of revenue leakage | UPI AutoPay e-mandates through Razorpay with RBI pre-debit notification to the member, automated renewal collection, failed-payment tracking and fallback payment links on WhatsApp or SMS |
| Part payments | Many members pay a joining amount now and the balance later | Part payments with due dates at joining and renewal; dues tracked per member and per branch |
| Members read WhatsApp; SMS and email are largely ignored | Official WhatsApp Business with approved templates, a two-way inbox and keyword automations - no ban risk from unofficial bridges | |
| SMS | Still needed for OTPs, verification and members without WhatsApp | Template SMS with delivery logs; SMS verification on web enquiry forms |
| Biometric attendance | Fingerprint and face devices are standard in Indian gyms | Sync with ZKTeco, eSSL and BioMax, template management, unknown-visitor logs, auto-block on expiry |
| Trainer commissions | PT revenue is often shared with trainers | Commissions, trainer earnings and client load tracked; payroll linked to attendance |
| Payroll and leave | Staff are paid on attendance with week-offs and shift rules | Attendance-linked payroll, leave approvals, shift and week-off policies, frozen pay runs |
| Multi-branch | Successful Indian gyms open a second and third branch fast | One login, branch switching, branch-specific member-ID prefixes, holidays, staff and expenses |
| Rupee pricing | International tools priced in USD can cost several times the local market rate | Rs 1,500/month or Rs 14,999/year, no setup fee, no per-member charge |
| Local support | A billing failure at 7am cannot wait for another timezone | India-based support in IST, dedicated support desk, free migration |
GST: the detail that separates real support from a checkbox
“GST supported” can mean anything from a tax field on the invoice to a full reporting workflow. The details that matter in practice are rate history (when a rate changes, old invoices must keep the old rate, otherwise your reports for past periods change underneath you), tax breakups shown on every invoice, sequential numbering, and an exportable GST report your CA can use without re-keying. Torzil does all four. The 2025 change is the live example: from 22 September 2025 gym services moved to a mandatory 5% GST without input tax credit, so invoices before that date must keep 18% and later ones carry 5%. With rate history you set the new rate from the date once and nothing earlier is rewritten. The GST billing page goes deeper, and the GST for gyms guide explains the tax position itself.
UPI and recurring payments: renewals that do not need chasing
The Indian payment stack is unusually good - UPI is instant and nearly free for the member. The problem is that a UPI payment still needs the member to act. Torzil gives you three layers: members can renew themselves in the app through Razorpay, staff can send a payment link on WhatsApp or SMS, and recurring payments - including UPI AutoPay mandates - collect renewals automatically. Failed online payments are tracked rather than silently lost. See UPI payments and recurring payments.
WhatsApp: official, two-way and automated
Indian members open WhatsApp, not email. Torzil uses the official WhatsApp Business API, so messages go out on approved templates, members can reply into a two-way inbox your team answers from the dashboard, and keyword automations handle common replies. Message-by-situation targeting reaches exactly the right group - expiring this week, low attendance, overdue dues, hot leads. Details on the WhatsApp page.
Biometrics: the devices already on your wall
Most Indian gyms already own a ZKTeco, eSSL or BioMax device. Torzil syncs with all three for fingerprint and face recognition, manages enrolment templates, logs unknown visitors and can auto-block expired memberships at the door. See biometric attendance.

Each plan card on the pricing page shows what it includes.
Getting started in India: the first two weeks

Is Torzil the right fit for your Indian gym?
Torzil fits Indian gyms and studios that want GST billing, UPI and recurring payments, official WhatsApp, biometric attendance, payroll, POS and multi-branch control in one system, at a flat rupee price with India-based support and free data migration. It is not the lowest-priced option, and it has no consumer marketplace that sends you new members.
