UPI solved payment for members, not for gyms
UPI made paying trivial for members: scan, enter a PIN, done. For the gym, it created a new problem. Money now arrives in the owner’s account from a name that may not match the member, with no reference to which plan it was for. Staff ask for screenshots, write them in a register, and somebody matches them against the bank statement at month end. A busy month means a dozen payments nobody can place.
Gym UPI payment software fixes that by tying each UPI payment to an invoice before it is made.
How UPI works in Torzil
- A renewal, booking or add-on creates an invoice in Torzil.
- The member pays it by UPI - in the app, or from a payment link on WhatsApp or SMS - through your Razorpay account.
- Razorpay confirms the payment and Torzil records it against that member, invoice and branch automatically.
- A receipt is generated, the membership is extended and access is restored at the door if it had been blocked.

UPI and reporting
Because each UPI payment is recorded as a payment mode against an invoice, reports split revenue by mode - UPI, card, cash - and by branch. The GST report includes UPI-paid invoices like any other, and failed online attempts are tracked rather than lost. See gym billing software.
Why UPI matters more than cards for Indian gyms
Most members already pay for everything else by UPI, and asking for a card or cash adds friction at exactly the moment you want a renewal to be easy.
