Disclosure up front: Torzil publishes this comparison and Torzil is one of the 12 platforms in it. Every platform is scored on publicly documented capability - vendor documentation, pricing pages and public feature lists - against the same published rubric below, which was written before the scores. This is a documentation review, not a hands-on test of all 12 platforms. Where a competitor beats Torzil, the table says so. Pricing is what each vendor listed publicly as of 1 September 2026 and changes often - confirm it with the vendor before deciding anything.
The short answer
If you run a traditional gym in India and want GST invoicing, UPI-backed payments, WhatsApp reminders and fingerprint attendance in one system, most platforms below will do the job. The differences that actually matter show up in four places: whether the WhatsApp integration is the official Meta API or an unofficial workaround, whether the member app is a real app or a website in a wrapper, whether the software tracks your costs as well as your revenue, and whether it can price a class pack rather than only a monthly membership.
If you run a yoga, pilates, CrossFit, HIIT, boxing or dance studio, that last point eliminates most of this list immediately. Studios sell 10-class packs and drop-ins. Software built for monthly gym memberships models that badly or not at all.
The numbers that should shape your choice
Software is a retention tool before it is an admin tool, and the retention numbers are worse than most operators assume.
- The HFA 2025 Fitness Industry Benchmarking Report puts the industry-average annual retention rate at 66.4%, measured across 175 companies and more than 17,000 facilities. That is roughly 5 points below the 71.4% figure most vendor blogs still quote from 2015, so the widely repeated number is a decade out of date.
- Around half of new members quit before the six-month mark.
- Members who attend fewer than four times in their first month have roughly an 80% chance of cancelling. This is the single most actionable statistic in the industry, and it is the reason attendance analytics matter more than they look: if the software cannot tell you who has stopped coming, you find out when they stop paying.
- Retention varies sharply by format. Boutique and high-end gyms run around 75%, personal training studios up to 80%, and traditional gyms 50-60%.
- Churn is expensive in absolute terms - industry estimates put the annual cost of membership churn at $5,000 to $25,000 per gym.
The Indian market context matters too. India has roughly 46,500 fitness facilities, projected to reach about 65,500 by 2030, with approximately 13.6 million paid gym memberships and a penetration rate near 0.12% - meaning the market is expanding while remaining almost entirely untapped.
Read against those numbers, the software question changes. The platform that reliably tells you who stopped attending three weeks ago is worth more than the one with the longer feature list.

How we scored: publicly documented capability
Seven criteria, weighted, applied to what each vendor publicly documents. India readiness carries the most weight because it is where generic international platforms fail Indian operators.
A capability is scored as present only where the vendor documents it publicly. That cuts both ways: a platform may support something it does not advertise, and would score lower here than it deserves. Treat a low score as “not documented” rather than “not possible”, and check anything that matters to you directly with the vendor.
| Criterion | Weight | What earns points |
|---|---|---|
| India readiness | 25% | GST-compliant invoicing, GST reporting, INR pricing, India-based support |
| Payments | 15% | UPI-backed gateway, online self-serve renewal, due tracking |
| Messaging | 15% | Official WhatsApp Cloud API (not an unofficial bridge), SMS, push |
| Attendance hardware | 15% | Named biometric device support, QR, kiosk mode |
| Pricing model fit | 10% | Duration plans, session packs and drop-ins all supported |
| Member app | 10% | Native iOS/Android app, not a web wrapper |
| Business reporting | 10% | Revenue and expenses, profit and loss, multi-branch |
Two things this rubric deliberately does not reward: being the cheapest, and having the longest feature list. A cheap platform that gets your GST wrong costs more than it saves.

Scores apply the rubric above to publicly documented capability as of September 2026. No platform in this table other than Torzil was tested hands-on. They are not a substitute for a demo.
Where each platform actually fits
1. Torzil - gyms and studios, both pricing models
Torzil publishes this comparison. It scores highest here because it is the only platform in the list that covers all three pricing models - duration memberships, session packs and paid drop-ins - and tracks expenses and profit alongside revenue.
Verifiable specifics rather than adjectives. The member app is built on React Native and ships to the App Store and Play Store as a real native app, not a web view. Biometric attendance runs against ZKTeco, eSSL and BioMax devices. WhatsApp runs on the official Meta Cloud API, so the gym’s number cannot be banned for automated messaging and can carry a verified green tick. GST invoicing and a dedicated GST report are built in. Payments run through Razorpay, including UPI AutoPay - renewals collect automatically by UPI e-mandate rather than waiting on the member or the front desk - alongside member self-serve renewal for anyone not on a mandate.
Beyond the basics: enquiry management with a public SMS-verified enquiry form, membership freeze and pause, class scheduling with no-show detection, trainer-assigned workout and diet plans, a shared exercise catalogue, member goals with progress photos, daily task checklists, loyalty points, ratings and facility requests, role-scoped staff access, bulk import, and multi-branch reporting where one member visiting two branches on the same day is counted once.
Where it loses points: it is not the cheapest platform here, and it has no consumer marketplace to bring you new members the way Mindbody does.
Pricing: flat Rs 1,500/month, or Rs 14,999/year (two months free), in India. No setup fee, no per-member charges.
2. GymForce
Strong India-first positioning - UPI auto-debit, WhatsApp automation and GST invoicing are all present and clearly documented. A sound fit for a mid-sized conventional gym. Weaker if you sell class packs, and it does not track operating costs, so it answers “what did we collect” but not “what did we make”.
3. Kondria
Publishes its own scored comparison and discloses that it is a vendor doing so, which is more transparent than most in this category. India readiness is genuinely weighted in the product. Same gap as GymForce on studio pricing models.
4. AdviceFit
Positions around AI-assisted member workflows, connecting biometric attendance, WhatsApp engagement, billing and trainer workflows in one system. Worth a demo if AI-assisted workflows matter to you.
5. FitnessForce
One of the longest-established Indian platforms and a sensible pick for larger chains with settled processes. Heavier to configure than the newer entrants.
6. Traqade
Backed by Cult.fit. Suits brand-led operations. Less flexible for an independent operator who changes plan structures often.
7. Gymowl
A budget option aimed at single-location Indian gyms. Covers membership tracking, attendance and basic billing at a low monthly cost.
Consider it if: you run one location, sell monthly memberships only, and cost is the deciding factor.
Check before buying: whether WhatsApp runs on the official Meta API or an unofficial bridge, and whether class packs are supported at all.
8. OkFit
Positions on automation for budget-conscious gyms. Similar profile to Gymowl - solid on the membership basics, thinner on studio pricing models and cost reporting.
Consider it if: you want automation on renewals without paying mid-market prices.
Check before buying: the biometric device list by name, and whether expense tracking exists.
9. Easy Gym Software
One of the simpler membership-tracking tools in the Indian market. Straightforward to set up.
Consider it if: you are moving off spreadsheets and want the smallest possible step.
Check before buying: whether it will still fit once you add a second location.
10. Glofox
Built for boutique studios and genuinely good at class scheduling and class packs - the pricing models Indian gym software often ignores. Used widely by studios internationally.
Consider it if: you run a boutique studio and class scheduling is the centre of your operation.
Check before buying: GST invoicing, INR billing, and what support hours look like from India.
11. Zen Planner
Well regarded by CrossFit boxes, with strong programming and workout-tracking features aimed at that format.
Consider it if: you run a CrossFit or strength box and value programming tools over billing sophistication.
Check before buying: Indian payment rails and GST handling - the product is built around the US market.
12. Mindbody
The largest name here, and the only one with a consumer marketplace that can actually send you new members - a real advantage no Indian platform matches.
Consider it if: brand alignment and member acquisition through the Mindbody app matter more than local fit.
Check before buying: the price. Mindbody starts around $159/month, several times the Indian market rate, and GST handling was not designed for Indian compliance.
What most comparisons leave out
Three things decide whether software works a year in, and none appear on feature lists.
Support timezone
A platform headquartered eight or more hours away means a payment problem at 7am Monday - peak gym hour - waits until their afternoon. For a single-location gym this is the difference between a five-minute fix and a lost day.
Data portability
Ask what happens to your member data if you leave. A platform that exports a usable CSV of members, plans, payments and attendance is one you can leave; one that does not has locked you in regardless of what the contract says.
Who does the setup
Migrating a few hundred members, enrolling every one of them on a biometric device, and rebuilding your plan structure is the real cost of switching. Ask whether bulk import exists, and who does the work.
Three-year cost of ownership
Monthly price is the wrong number to compare. What matters is total cost at your member count, over the life of the decision, including the charges that are not on the price page.
The four costs vendors quote separately
- Subscription - the headline monthly or annual figure.
- Setup or onboarding fee - often one-time, often four figures, frequently negotiable, rarely advertised.
- Per-member or per-branch charges - the one that decides the shape of the curve. Flat pricing costs the same at 200 members and 800; per-member pricing does not.
- Add-ons - WhatsApp messaging, biometric device licences, the member app, extra staff logins. Ask which of these are included and which are billed separately, because the answer differs sharply by vendor.
Worked example
A single-location gym growing from 200 to 500 members over three years, on flat pricing at Rs 1,500/month (or Rs 14,999/year) with no setup fee:
| Year | Members | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 200 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 18,000 |
| 2 | 350 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 18,000 |
| 3 | 500 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 18,000 |
| Total | Rs 54,000 |
On a per-member model at even Rs 10 per member per month, the same gym pays Rs 24,000 in year one, Rs 42,000 in year two and Rs 60,000 in year three - Rs 126,000, more than double, and the gap widens with every member you add. The point is not that one number beats another; it is that the pricing model, not the headline price, decides the three-year total, and growth is penalised under one and not the other.
What to actually ask
Get every vendor to quote the total for your projected member count in year three, including setup, add-ons and any per-member component. A platform that will not put that in writing is telling you something.
Biometric hardware: what actually connects
This is where most software comparisons go vague, and where deployments fail in practice.
The three device families in Indian gyms
ZKTeco is the most widely deployed, with the broadest range from basic fingerprint readers to face-recognition terminals. eSSL is common and often the cheapest to source locally. BioMax appears frequently in mid-market installations. Torzil integrates with all three.
Fingerprint versus face
Fingerprint readers are cheaper and reliable, but slow down measurably when members arrive with wet or sweaty hands - which, in a gym, is most of them on the way out. Face recognition is faster at peak entry and avoids the hygiene objection, but costs more per unit and degrades in poor lighting. Many gyms run fingerprint at the back and face at the main door.
The question that catches vendors out
Ask which devices are supported by name and model. “Works with all standard biometric devices” is not an answer - device integration is per-protocol work, and a vendor who cannot name the hardware has probably not done it.
Enrolment is the real cost
Every member must scan once to register. For 500 members that is a fortnight of front-desk time regardless of which platform you pick. Ask whether enrolment can be done at any device or only at a designated one, and whether templates sync automatically across branches.
Migrating without losing a month
Step 1: Export what you have
Get your member list out of the current system or spreadsheet: name, phone, plan, start date, expiry date, amount paid. This is the irreducible minimum. If your current vendor will not export it, that is itself a reason to move.
Step 2: Check bulk import exists
Re-typing 500 members is two weeks of work and a source of errors that surface months later as wrong expiry dates. Bulk import is not a luxury feature.
Step 3: Run both systems for two weeks
Overlap deliberately. The old system stays authoritative until the new one has been through one full renewal cycle.
Step 4: Enrol biometrics in waves
Do not attempt to enrol everyone in a day. Catch members as they arrive over two weeks, starting with the most regular attenders.
Step 5: Switch messaging last
Renewal reminders are the highest-risk automation to move, because a misconfiguration means members silently stop hearing from you. Verify on a small group before enabling for everyone.
Which to choose, by gym type
| Your situation | Shortlist |
|---|---|
| Single location, monthly memberships only, tight budget | Gymowl, OkFit, Easy Gym Software |
| Mid-sized Indian gym wanting GST, WhatsApp and biometrics | Torzil, GymForce, Kondria, AdviceFit |
| Yoga, pilates or dance studio selling class packs | Torzil, Glofox |
| CrossFit or HIIT box | Torzil, Zen Planner |
| Multi-branch operator wanting unified profit and loss | Torzil, FitnessForce |
| Large chain with an existing ops team | FitnessForce, Traqade |
| Boutique studio wanting international brand alignment | Mindbody, Glofox |
Terms worth knowing before the demo
Vendors use these interchangeably. They are not interchangeable, and the difference costs money.
Duration-based plan
A membership priced by time: one month, three months, a year. The member may attend as often as they like within it. This is the default model in traditional Indian gyms and the only model some software supports.
Session-based plan or class pack
A membership priced by number of visits - a ten-class pack, a twenty-session personal training block. The pack is consumed as the member attends and expires either on a date or when sessions run out. Yoga, pilates, CrossFit and dance studios run almost entirely on this model. Software that only understands duration plans forces you to fake it with short-dated memberships, which breaks your reporting and confuses members.
Drop-in session
A single paid visit with no membership attached. Common for travellers and trial visitors, and a meaningful revenue line for boutique studios. Requires the software to take a payment and record attendance for someone who is not a member.
Official WhatsApp Cloud API
Meta’s sanctioned programmatic route for business messaging. The number can be verified with a green tick and cannot be banned for sending automated messages. Distinguish it from unofficial WhatsApp automation, which drives a normal WhatsApp session through a browser or phone. Unofficial methods violate Meta’s terms; when the number is banned, the gym loses its entire member communication channel and the message history with it.
Membership freeze or pause
Suspending a membership and extending its expiry by the frozen period - for travel, injury or illness. Without it, staff adjust expiry dates by hand, which gets forgotten, and the gym either gives away time or argues with members about it.
Unique attendance versus check-in count
If a member scans three times in a day, that is one unique attendance and three check-ins. Reports that quietly conflate them overstate how busy you are. The distinction matters more with multiple branches, where the same member visiting two locations on one day should still count once.
Five questions worth asking every vendor
- Is your WhatsApp integration the official Meta Cloud API? If the answer is vague, it is an unofficial bridge and the gym’s number can be banned.
- Is the member app native, or a website in a wrapper? Ask for the App Store and Play Store links, then read the reviews.
- Which biometric devices do you support by name? “All standard devices” is not an answer. ZKTeco, eSSL and BioMax are the common ones in India.
- Can I sell a 10-class pack and a drop-in session, not just a monthly plan? Critical for studios, irrelevant for a traditional gym.
- Does the software track expenses, or only income? Revenue reporting alone cannot tell you whether a branch is profitable.
- Is it UPI AutoPay, or a payment link? These get used interchangeably and are not the same. AutoPay means a UPI e-mandate collects the renewal automatically on the due date. A payment link still needs the member to act. Ask which one, because it decides whether renewals chase themselves.
What this comparison does not tell you
It does not tell you which platform has the best support, because that cannot be measured from documentation and it is what operators complain about most. It does not tell you how any of these feel to use daily, because scoring documentation cannot answer that. It does not cover every platform in India - there are dozens. And a rubric written by a vendor, however transparent, is still written by a vendor. Demo two or three, put your own member data in, and trust that more than any table, including this one.
How to check this comparison yourself
Do not take a vendor’s word for its own ranking, including ours. Three checks take under ten minutes each. Search the App Store and Play Store for the member app and read the most recent reviews, not the rating. Ask the vendor to send a sample GST invoice generated by the system. And request the name and model of one biometric device they have deployed at a gym you can phone. A platform that passes all three is telling the truth about the parts that are hardest to fake.
