When QR is the right answer
Not every fitness business needs a biometric terminal. A yoga studio with one room, a new gym watching its budget, a CrossFit box where the coach knows everyone, or a second branch that has not bought a device yet - all of them need reliable attendance without hardware. QR check-in gives them accurate, member-linked attendance from day one using the phone every member already carries.
Three ways to check in with QR
| Method | What happens | Hardware |
|---|---|---|
| Branch QR | Member scans the branch’s QR code with the camera inside the Torzil app | A printed QR code |
| Personal entry QR | Member opens their entry QR in the app; staff scan it | Any phone or tablet with the Staff App or kiosk |
| Kiosk mode | A front-desk tablet acts as a scanning station with entry and exit tracking | One tablet |
What a QR scan updates
Every QR check-in is recorded against the member’s membership and branch, so it counts exactly like a biometric punch:
- the member’s attendance calendar and history
- streaks, weekly goals and leaderboards in the member app
- loyalty coins for full-week attendance
- low-attendance alerts for retention
- class and PT attendance when used for a booked session
- attendance reports and trends
QR for classes and personal training
Studios use QR attendance to close the gap between who booked a class and who turned up. Members scan in at the class; no-shows become visible; credits and session packs are consumed correctly. Personal trainers can log PT sessions the same way. See class booking and personal training.
QR plus biometrics
QR and biometrics are not either-or. A common setup is a biometric device at the main entrance with expired-member blocking, and QR as the fallback for members not yet enrolled, for classes in a separate studio room, and for branches without a device. The QR vs biometric guide compares cost, speed, security and member experience.
QR check-in that drives more than a timestamp
Torzil’s QR attendance is part of the same platform as memberships, classes and the member app, so a scan is never just a timestamp - it drives streaks, loyalty, retention alerts and session tracking. It needs no extra hardware, and you can add biometrics later without changing systems.
