GST is where gym software quietly fails
Most gym owners find out their software handles GST badly at the worst moment: when the CA asks for a report the system cannot produce, when a rate change rewrites last quarter’s invoices, or when a member’s company asks for an invoice with a tax breakup and the PDF does not have one. GST is not a field on an invoice. It is a set of rules about what the invoice shows, what rate applied on which date, and what can be reported afterwards.
What Torzil’s GST billing does
| GST requirement | How Torzil handles it |
|---|---|
| GSTIN on every invoice | Your GSTIN, legal name, address, logo and terms printed on every PDF invoice |
| Correct tax rate | Custom GST rates you configure with your CA’s guidance |
| Rate changes | Rate history: each invoice keeps the rate in force on its date |
| Tax breakup | Taxable value and tax shown separately on every invoice |
| Sequential numbering | Invoices numbered in sequence; cancellations recorded, not deleted |
| Reporting | GST report exportable to Excel and PDF from the Report Centre |
| Retail sales | POS sales invoiced through the same system |
| Branches | Branch-level invoice details and branch-filtered reports |
Why rate history matters right now
Gym GST changed on 22 September 2025: gym and fitness services moved from 18% with input tax credit to 5% without input tax credit, and CBIC clarified that the 5% rate is mandatory. Every gym therefore has invoices at 18% before that date and at 5% after it - and both have to stay correct in your reports. Software without rate history either rewrites old invoices when you change the rate or forces you to juggle two tax settings by hand. With rate history you set 5% from 22 September 2025 once; earlier invoices keep 18%, and the GST report shows each at the rate in force on its date. Read GST for gyms in India for the tax detail, SAC codes and registration thresholds.
What a compliant gym invoice shows
- Your GSTIN, name and address
- Member name (and address where required)
- Sequential invoice number and date
- Service description - package name and period
- Taxable value
- Tax rate and tax amount, with the breakup
- Total amount
Ask any vendor to send a real invoice their system generated, not a design mockup. It is the quickest way to tell real GST support from a checkbox.
GST and the rest of your billing
GST in Torzil applies wherever money is billed: memberships, renewals, add-ons, class bookings, PT packages and POS sales. Because the tax sits inside the billing system, there is no separate “GST tool” to reconcile, and the GST report always matches the invoices.
Who needs GST billing software
Every gym that is GST registered, and every gym close to the threshold. At Rs 1,500 per member per month, a gym passes the Rs 20 lakh services threshold that applies in most states at roughly 110 active members - so most gyms in a tier-one city need this well before they feel large.
GST designed in, not bolted on
Torzil was designed around Indian billing rather than adapted to it: custom rates, rate history, tax breakups, branded PDF invoices, branch-level detail and an exportable GST report are built into the platform. Combined with UPI and Razorpay payments and recurring renewals, it gives an Indian gym one system from payment to filing.
